  1. Does CVS offer a pension like the FBI or government job? Mode of living? When did a job at CVS require a TOP Secret security clearance. It’s not like they offer you either great benefits or working conditions. I wonder if the CEO got checked before getting promoted.

  2. I’ve been reading the ‘fine print’ only now it isnt….it’s a separate page at the end of the application and since 99.9999% of job openings are done online (even walking into a department store…they either direct you to their website or a freestanding computer in the corner to fill out an application) your application is not completed/accetpted unless you ‘agree’ to the terms of that statement and then ‘electronically’ sign it….which is then their way of having you sign the application to submit. AND there have been some job ads that stated if you are not currently employed you need NOT apply…Yes, the unemployed are being blatently discriminated against plain as day.

  3. This is nothing new. Companies have been doing this for decades but few folks read the find print.

  4. Why is a credit report needed?

    • Good credit means you are a reliable person — of course, that was before the last economic meltdown. A bad credit report is one of the reasons that there are so many people who are still unemployed… they’re basically unemployable.

A Minnesota man who was fired from his job after a background check provided erroneous information to his employer will be allowed to proceed with a lawsuit against the company that conducted the background check.

Companies want to know all about their new hires, but they typically refuse to disclose much of anything about their former workers. So, stymied on their own, they hire background checkers.

    http://www.businessweek.com/stories/2008-05-28/the-trouble-with-background-checks

Theodore Pendergrass was shocked in November, 2006, when the Walgreens (WAG) pharmacy chain rejected his application for a store supervisor job…

The federal Fair Credit Reporting Act covers background screeners, but it hasn’t been aggressively enforced. The law says screeners must use “reasonable procedures” to ensure “maximum possible accuracy.” It also requires employers to give a copy of background reports to rejected applicants. An applicant can dispute the information, but the Federal Trade Commission has said employers must wait only five business days before hiring someone else, meaning that objections frequently become moot…

Then, in 2005, it came to light that ChoicePoint had given identity thieves pretending to be small business clients seeking background checks access to people’s addresses, Social Security numbers, and dates of birth.

  6. Should be interesting how this pans out. It states different stuff for us out here in California. I opted out for arbitration via registered mail.

  7. Hard to imagine discrimination against the ones-pharmacists-that discriminate against the disabled that need narcotics. Most jobs require background checks but credit, neighbors and such are not necessary to determine a decent employee. There are laws about what may be asked during a job interview.

  8. All the job applications I have been filling out have this…some have had a box that you want a copy of the report…I have yet to receive one, so I dont know if my application even got that far. But now I think in Indiana, if it is an advers report, they have to tell you. I don’t think my actual credit history and score is any employers business….I know it’s bad…DUH…I’ve been very under employed…of course my score is in the basement and my history looks like crap…that has absolutely NOTHING to do with my ability to do my job

  9. OMG – they are getting out of control. No wonder they needed the arbitration contract in place. Interesting to see what else is around the corner!

  10. How is this allowed i thought it is illegal, for any job reference to say anything other then you worked there dates and rate of pay.
