Here is a interesting development

This is a quote for the Kansas BOP meeting  March 8, 2012

Walgreens – William Cover, R.Ph. made some brief statements about the Walgreens Well Experience Pharmacy and then showed a video describing the new wellness concept. Walgreens currently has approximately 100 stores on this new model, currently none in Kansas.  The model has pharmacists out of the pharmacy dispensing area and in the public area.  The prescription verification process may or may not occur at the store.

It would appear that the Walgreen’s “new  Pharmacist out front model”  may include Rxs being verified  – OFF SITE – one can only presume that this is done via some video process and or can one presume that the RPH doing the verifying is licensed in the same state that the Rx is being verified and filled in.

While the whole system may be initially set up to make sure that only RPH’s licensed in the same state as the pharmacy where the Rx is dispensed… What safe guards are going to be in place.. to make sure that staffing problems, ideas of increasing profits by circumventing this requirement, or some other “innovative idea” that keeps these parameters in place and prevents those from seeking profits from within a corporation – any corporation – from creating “short-cuts” that also “short-circuits” all the practice acts?

If you look at all the fines that the major pharmacy corporations have paid.. for violating various laws… could this end up being  just be another law that could be “skirted” for the sake of profits… and if/when they are caught at it.. they will pay the fine.. while “admitting no wrong doing” and straighten up their act…

  1. Walgreens is that character in so many movies that is seemingly the good guy but the twist at the end reveals him to be the evil mastermind behind it all. They are trying to prove a pharmacist isn’t needed on site. Pure and simple. If they convince a state board of that…..well you can figure out the rest. Walgreens IS Big Evil! The rest (CVS, Rite Aid, etc.) are just evil minions jumping on whatever bandwagon is on front of them.
