From the Article:

On Friday, the administration announced that it would be significantly reducing funding for the popular program. Obama’s proposal, according to one analyst, “would turn almost every plan in the industry unprofitable.”

Richard Foster, the recently-retired chief actuary of the Medicare program, has projected that Obamacare’s cuts to Medicare Advantage would force half of its current enrollees to switch back to the old, 1965-vintage Medicare program.

To best of knowledge this is the third time that this type of program has been tried… first Medicare HMO, then Medicare C, and lastly Medicare Advantage.. Each had less than a 10 yr life span and they all ended up having funding cut and the providers pulled out in large numbers… especially those outside of large metro areas, without a critical mass

With many physicians no longer accepting new Medicare pts… how many Medicare folks.. are going to find themselves scrambling or competing for a available slot in a medical practice?

Since “sicker patients” take more time… will practices be selective in the patients that they accept?  Will patients have to “apply” to a practice much like high school students have to apply to get into a college?

  1. Just another example of where we are headed and we are headed toward the same type system as England. Ultimately what we will have is a rationing of care.
