Your medical care is being compromised – slowly

The time that I was in pharmacy school … things were a change a foot in how pts were to be cared for … our healthcare system was moving away from a time when the pt was excepted to be totally compliant … they were not to question the doc or ask  many questions… they were just suppose to do what they were told.

At that time we were being instructed/trained that we needed to communicate with pts… pts were suppose to take a active part in their healthcare.  The independent pharmacy/pharmacist that I worked for my last year of school had a 3-yr pharmacy degree and his education/training was from the “old school” and the two of us often had CONVERSATIONS about talking to pts…  he was taught you fill prescriptions and SAY NOTHING… me on the other hand….

It seems like we are making another 180 degree turn in dealing with pts .. back to the way it was decades ago…  the pts are expected to do as they are told and just shut up.

  1. It’s sad, a long time ago Doctors actually cared, now we are money to them. The Doctors of the past were real Doctors, they came to your house, they fixed broken bones, if you needed surgery, than you went to the hospital unless it was an Emergency. Specialists were surgeons.
Now, they pick a field, study only that field and charge a fortune, but they still have no idea what is wrong with most of their patients so they just sent them to another so called specialist.

Really, rally, miss the Doctors of my day.

  2. My pain doc is the opposite. Do not complain about anything and you will be fine. If you do complain, they will start stuff you wish they hadn’t. So every month, I just tell them, ‘Same stuff different day’. He’s happy and I’m out of the room in 10 minutes. Now, with my GP doc, if I mention something that is wrong, I better have an answer on what I want them to do about it. It’s crazy either way. But they are consistent. So, basically, I keep my mouth shut and endure the pain.
