Off the rails?

Would you believe that Pennsylvania has a Pennsylvania DUI Association  REALLY ????

This TV station did not put the text of the piece on the web…. Reader’s Digest version

61 y/o woman (Amelia Whitmer)  made a error while driving.. turned prematurely at intersection and ended up in ditch… Police gave her field sobriety test which the police officer claimed that she was “border line impaired” and they gave her a drug blood test and a legally prescribed “common antidepressant” showed up in her blood and ARRESTED her for DUI … which according to the article was equal to a blood alcohol of 0.16 – TWICE LEGAL LEVEL. REALLY ???

This woman stated that she had to enroll in “DUI SCHOOL”… I smell a new revenue stream here for some bureaucracy..  The name of the common antidepressant was not mentioned, but the woman stated that she had been on it for abt TEN YEARS … it was not reported that the woman’s blood level was outside of therapeutic range.

DA TIM BARKER is obsessed with getting impaired driver’s off the road…

This is once again… were someone is coming to IRRATIONAL CONCLUSIONS .. without any knowledge.. according to this webpage http://www.yorkda.com/executivestaff_cp.shtml  Mr Barker is probably in his mid-40’s… so has NO CLUE about the issues that comes along with aging..

In the small town, where I had my pharmacy… there was a female police officer that use to come into a store.. I believed to be a very consciousness officer… one day she confided in me that she never believed anyone who has in a auto accident, when they claim that they did not see the other car.. that they hit.. until one day.. when she didn’t see the other car… that she ran into !

There was this 30-40 something woman who was the liaison between Medicare Part B vendors and Indiana Medicare – this was before DMERC existed.. Generally, she was a real hard-ass about requirements and paperwork for vendors to get reimbursed for providing equipment to Medicare folks.. That is, until her Mother had a sudden medical issue and was in needed of Home Medical Equipment and all those requirements that she strongly defended became “unreasonable obstacles” for her Mom getting the HME that she needed..  All of a sudden, she was much more sympathetic to the plight of the vendors being able to provide equipment to Medicare folks.

Mrs Whitmer stated that if it had been “for the money” she would have taken this issue to court. So once again, the “deep pocket” bureaucracy are creating legal obstacles that the average Joe.. cannot afford to defend their innocence.

I wonder if Mr Barker and his over zealous police dept.. is going to go after :

Diabetic with low blood sugar

Epileptic on medication

ADD/ADHD pts on medication

Sleep deprived drivers – and talk about your epidemic..!!!

Luckily, I don’t think that Pennsylvania doesn’t have a active PMP yet.. just think of  them doing some data mining in a PMP and “tracking down” all the people in York County that are taking some controlled meds.. Talk about hitting a “gold mine” !!!

One Response

  1. If the Oregan ruling applied, they’d have to get a warrant to ‘data mine’ the PMP.

Per Steve… To the best of my understanding.. the state of PA’s PMP is either not operational or functioning
and we know that those in law enforcement always follow the laws.. especially when controlled drugs are concerned
