I’ve been “born again”

When I am working at my desk..the TV is most always on.. although most of the time.. I might be able to tell you what is on.. but.. the story line is probably a mystery to me. More like “white noise” in the background.  It was abt 17:15 and looking for something to watch… the cable guide show me that “THE FIVE” on Fox cable was on.. so I flipped it on.. the cable guide was wrong.. John Stossel’s  weekly show was on… It was basically on ADDICTION… but the title was :

Libertarians Vs. Conservatives (9PM ET on FBN)

For those who don’t/haven’t watched Stossel..  he is a card carrying unabashed Libertarian…. 20-30 yrs ago he was a unabashed card carrying progressive liberal.

I have always considered myself a conservative.. until I started listening to the view point of the conservatives that Stossel had on his show.. basically your point -counter point discussion.

These conservatives… kept slicing and dicing between what  “social sins” were acceptable and are not acceptable and  – IMO – the line between the two was real FUZZY !

Seemingly they want to lump together when someone “tries” something… and when someone becomes “addicted” to something. A minor who “tries” alcohol and one that become a alcoholic .. is one and the same.. in their book.

The conservatives tried to admit that someone abusing some substance in their own house.. was not causing harm to anyone.. but.. kept falling back on that puritanical thread in the fabric of our society.. that it is just not MORALLY RIGHT.. and that government has to provide STRUCTURE and DISCIPLINE.

The TEN COMMANDMENTS is structure… the 15 million laws/rules/regulations that our country has on the books.. is probably a overkill…

The latitude of “life, liberty and pursuit of happiness” seems to be narrowing… maybe approaching a “strangle hold” ?

  1. First it was the evangelicals. Now it is the progressive nanny state intelligentsia dictating what is good or bad for the us less enlightened populace.

  2. I was raised in a Conservative, Evangelical household in a red state. It is all about forcing others to live by your religious code and looking down on those who see things differently! I love to listen to the contorted logic they will spew to attempt to hide the fact that it all boils down to “we don’t like it ‘cuz our preacher sez not to like it!” and “we believe it, so everybody should believe it!”.
