Is this arrogance… ignorance.. or just plain stupidity ?

This showed up in a face book post today:

Walgreens today refused to fill my Tramadol which I’ve been taking for years and years, turned me into some “DEA crminal Database”, and called my doctor and threatened to turn him in for over prescribing pain meds if he didn’t cancel my prescriptions which he did. What is worse is that they “Flagged” me in some DEA database as a drug abuser which is guaranteed to cause me to lose my jobs since I am required to maintain various security clearances and a spotless criminal record. I’m a 55 year old man with ruptured disks from a car wreck, synthetic mesh from botched stomach operations, and severely arthritic knees and hips and now I can’t get the medicine I need to be able to work and no way to get any justice or even to defend myself. Never a good lawyer around when you need one.

I am taking this at face value… it is unusual for someone who is abusing a drug… to put themselves out there in a “spotlight”… but.. this “asshole” Pharmacist may have screwed this person CAREER .. if he does in fact have and needs to keep various security clearances and a spotless criminal record..

I have often heard Pharmacist state  that they don’t want to “play cop”.. from what is stated here.. this Pharmacist wants to be judge, jury and EXECUTIONER !  Is this Pharmacist following his/her own opiate policy or is this part of WALGREEN’S GOOD FAITH POLICY ?

I hope he finds a good attorney.. and they start with practicing medicine without a license and defamation of character… and finish up with unprofessional conduct and ADA violations – FOR STARTERS …

  1. You might concider this a “empty” threat given to you to go away as we are too busy. Merely take your business elsewhere it is welcomed. As far as I know their is no such database.Maybe you could be placed in a Walgreens black book, but even this is improbable. You must stand your ground and be steadfast.

  2. Seriously, Steve, you really need to stop blindly advocating for the uncontrolled use of drugs. You say you took this at face value and that just shows how much you want to believe every story that comes along about the big, bad pharmacist denying the poor, downtrodden pain patient. Nothing in this tale of woe makes sense or is believable. I think somebody made this up to help you look foolish… as if you need help.
A good pharmacist can tell the good ones from the bad ones. The good ones get their meds. (on time and as prescribed) The bad ones complain.

    • Well.. a investigative reporter is trying to get in touch with this pt and this investigative reporter has already done FIVE stories this year..about pts being denied their control medications.. That should get the real story sorted out…Maybe I will “see the light” on pts and opiates… about the same time that you see that – when it comes to control Rxs.. not all Pharmacists are “good pharmacists”.. The many stories that I have been told/read is that a lot of pharmacists are PharmDieties

  3. Steve, I think you have been had. Patient’s only pain med here is tramadol? Pharmacists turning people into a DEA criminal database? Flagging a patient in a DEA database as a drug abuser? And these DEA databases are where? And a Walgreen’s pharmacist has all sorts of idle time to do this?

    • It is my understanding.. that when WAGS introduced their new “good faith ” filling policy.. last year.. that it was then policy that a Pharmacist fax any Rx turned down to the local DEA office. Any WAGS’ RPH’s out there can deny or confirm this ?

  4. i call BS. DEA criminal data base? how does one report a patient? how does one
“flag” a patient with the DEA as a drug abuser? there’s more to this story

    • It has been my understanding.. even before all this “pill mill” business that the two most likely entities to turn a doc into the DEA was the local “friendly neighborhood pharmacist” and the pt’s family. IMO.. because the doc did not educate the family about what was going on.. and/or they were unable to be educated.. and the local Pharmacist was also kept in the dark and left to their own imagination and come to their own conclusion as to what was going on in a practice. Of course, with the DEA… most healthcare people are guilty until proven innocent and they get a chance after they have stripped the healthcare professional of all of their assets, destroyed their practice and by the time the whole process if finished the DEA has “liquidated” all the assets that they had seized…

  5. I am puzzled…Tramadol is not a controlled substance, so why would there even be a flagging of this? Unless, of course, the patient is filling multiple ‘scripts at different pharmacies…even then, though, his insurance would simply deny it.

And I agree, where is the doc on this? Somehow, I don’t think we are getting the ‘rest of the story’ here.

  6. I’m sorry to hear this, I used a lawyer that worked for the United Way to get on S.S. Disability and the state paid his wages, I never paid him a dime. Without him I would have never been approved. This may be a way you can go but I don’t know if United Way attorneys take these type cases. But I’m sure they can lead you in the correct direction. Some lawyers will take your case pro bono, done or undertaken for the public good without any payment or compensation .
The pharmacist is not suppose to turn you and your doctor in to this database unless this person is for darn sure a crime has been committed.
You must get a attorney ,you could come out on top on this if this pharmacist made a mistake, I wish you luck.

This morning at 10 am I will find out if my doctor is going to keep me or drop me as a patient after being a chronic pain sufferer for 22 years. I have all the necessary medical records proving I’m a true pain sufferer. The treatment for those in severe chronic pain has reached new lows. I feel bad for my fellow chronic pain sufferers. I hope and pray all of you are as pain free as possible. Please wish me luck or a prayer might help.

  7. We could use a attorney or several to fight for the discrimination and embarrassment that pain medication patients deserve and so badly need.

  8. tramadol isn’t federally controlled so how can he be placed in a so called DEA criminal database? What state is the writer from, I know some states put it as a C-IV, not IN. And where’s the doc’s backbone on this? He should also have his attorney file in the complaint that Walgreens and the pharmacist pay HIS attorney fees.

    • It has been controlled in KY for years… it is a control in NV and a IN state legislator representative (Pharmacist) introduced a bill this past session..but the Rep ended up in the hospital abt 4 weeks of 60 day “short” session and the bill didn’t get a hearing.. he will be back next year.. in the “long session” to get this done..
