Special Report: Bay County Suicide Epidemic – Video link

According to the Life Management Center in Bay County, one person in our country commits suicide every 13 minutes. It’s a fact that may shock you, as suicide is not talked about as openly as other leading causes of death; however, local advocacy groups are saying now is the time to start the conversation, because suicide is becoming an epidemic right here at home.

Source: Special Report: Bay County Suicide Epidemic

Florida has a average suicide rate of 13.9/100,000 population – Bay County ( Panama City Beach, FL ) has a nearly double the suicide rate of the rest of the state. and the country has a 5/100,000 opiate prescription overdose deaths.

What I found interesting about the article, there was no mention of how the suicides are done.. they mention warning signs of increased use of alcohol and drugs… but .. stopped there…

Would appear that Gov Scott and AG Bondi are silent on this issues.. even though committing suicide is a CRIME..

Just one more incident that a epidemic is in the eye of the beholder ! Or there is no “political capital” here

  1. Doug, your analogy is very well writen out and I very much admire the soul searching it took to phrase it out so well. How very sad to think you’d have to hold a weapon to the brain of the numbskulls in power to get them to reconsider.I can only wish they will all experience a 3rd degree burn and maybe get a baby aspirin tossed their way like a doggie treat, but as a Christian,I must refrain from thoughts like those. It’s difficult……Thanx for your intelligent input!

  2. They cut you pain meds If You Smile Or Joke. You better be all Bussiness If your In Pain . If you say there’s no point in living sometimes, when you can not curb your pain. . They threaten you with the nut house and make It sound like your In Danger .I have been thrown In jail for voicing my pain.

  3. Has anyone crunched the numbers as to the reasons people are committing or thinking of suicide?
How many are terminal who aren’t getting pain relief?
How many are pain sufferers or have mental illness and aren’t getting proper treatment?
How many stem from bullying or bad breakups?
Get these answers then address the problem. I’m tired of everything that is bad being blamed on the so called opiate addiction problem. Addiction to any controlled substance will always be an issue and it will never be stopped as long as criminal organizations continue to smuggle drugs in. Why don’t we search for the root of the suicide epidemic by finding out what’s causing people to just give up?
Seeing the signs from a terminal, pain or mentally ill patients are easy. It’s the spontaneous suicides for example from a breakup or from a bullying issue that may be harder to recognize. This may sound cold but it’s true, no matter what laws or restrictions the government makes, we can’t help them all. The thing is, a great deal of suicides could be stopped if patients quit getting denied medical treatment.

  4. “…warning signs to look out for if someone is considering taking their own life, including if they are talking about feeling hopeless or having no reason to live, increasing use of alcohol or drugs, sleeping too little or too much, behaving recklessly, withdrawing or feeling isolated or displaying extreme mood swings.”

Which comes first, the depression and suicidal thoughts, or the drug addiction through reckless use of alcohol and drugs?
