Sometimes the obvious evades you

I am always getting phone calls and emails from RPH’s across the country… almost exclusively from Senior RPH’s who believed that have been screwed or just about to get screwed by corporate pharmacy.. It seems like the “young’ins ” are either too busy trying to figure out what they have gotten themselves into… trying to get themselves out of  student loan debt… or working under the false presumption that they will bust their asses now… build up a ton of good will and figure that it “won’t happen to them”.. because they have been such a good dedicated corporate employee.. OH…  to be young and stupid again 🙁

I got a call today from a Senior RPH… has not been able to find a job for FOUR YEARS.. moving is not really a option… spouse may or may not be able to find another job.. owns a house.. not good to sell a house in a down economy…but .. they are financially OK.. but had planned on being in better shape.

This RPH found me via one of those 6 degrees of separation things… very long story

Had a good conversation for about a hour.. during the conversation.. the RPH asked “what can I do ?” It was like being hit upside the head..  I have never laid out what other RPH’s can do.. don’t have to leave the house.. expend any money.. invest a little of their time… for the betterment of the profession and those in the profession.

I have created a page on my blog dedicated to media links to investigative reporters taking pharmacy behind the shed. Some I find.. some …other RPH’s send me.. I started this a few weeks ago… and the list is getting pretty impressive … or depressing. Want to see the list.. click on the BULLS EYE on the front page of my blog.

What can you do…..

You see articles that should be put on this blog page… send me the link…

If you agree or disagree with what the investigative report says.. email the reporter… call the reporter… put a comment on the published article if you can/want.. can’t find a email, can’t make a comment.. call the news desk of the newspaper/TV ask to speak with the reporter.

Just recently, after Ginger Allen at the CBS station in Dallas/Ft Worth broadcasted a report.. I sent her a email… she did a follow up report.. the text of my email showed up as a graphic  in her report – not my name – and she verbally quoted from it as part of her report  http://dfw.cbslocal.com/2014/02/28/pharmacy-mistakes-what-you-can-do-to-save-your-life/

Take investigative reports and send them to the investigative reporter(s) in your media market..  tell them… “shouldn’t you be looking into this ?” Trust me, the problems are epidemic NOT endemic !

When Tisha Thompson NBC 5 in Washington DC interviewed some current/former employees of CVS… they shot in “shadow” and voice altered.. you could not tell if the person was a him/her… young/old… thin/fat…tall/short…

puppet

The day after Tish Thompson’s report aired… CVS employees got a memo… don’t talk to media.. send everyone to our “corporate spokesperson”.. so that they can “spin”  the information the media gets ?… so that  what the media gets… may not really be  representative of the truth.. but.. it will make a good “sound byte” ?

Your corporate employer is doing nothing more than protect their own image when these reports surface… are they doing it at the determent of our beloved Profession..?

What are you doing to protect the image of Pharmacy and Pharmacists ?  Or do you really care ?
