ERRORS IN LOCAL PHARMACIES

http://www.pharmacyerrorinjurylawyer.com/errors_in_local_pharmacies/

All of us are human… some seem to be more human than others… In the typical chain store Rx dept… is like a “fish bowl”… staff being interrupted by phone calls, each other, impatient pts – sometimes rude and demanding. There are more uncontrolled distractions than there are tablets on the shelves behind them. Add on to that the stress of being 1-2 hrs behind… because you are understaffed… either intentionally or from some one calling in sick. Typically, the Pharmacist has no scheduled breaks meals/restrooms and is expected to work 12-14 hrs at this pace. Yes mistakes happen… because it would appear that paying out money to compensate pts is less expensive than properly staffing a Rx dept to help keep the mistakes to the absolute minimum or at least keep the most serious ones from happening. It is extremely difficult to compensate for a DEATH ! If you think that the Rx dept staff seemed harried while you are waiting to have your Rx filled.. are you just waiting in line to get the wrong med and end up being harmed or worse ?

$1.44M HIPAA award upheld after Walgreen pharmacist shared patient data

https://www.pharmaciststeve.com/?p=4087

The Indiana Court of Appeals on Friday upheld a $1.4 million verdict against Walgreen Co. and one of its pharmacists who shared confidential medical information about a client that had once dated her husband.

The order is the first published appellate court decision in the nation in which a health-care provider has been held liable for violations of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act committed by an employee, according to Indianapolis attorney Neal F. Eggeson Jr., who represented the victim.

skeltoncrewStaffing at WAGS starting in 2015 ?

Did anyone watch the Team Member town hall on Friday, Nov. 7?

The mentioned the big changes that are happening on 2015 but “we’ll tell you the specifics when we’re able to”. The also mentioned multiple times that we have “to execute better” and we need to “significantly cut costs”.

Has anyone heard anything more specific than this? What’s happening in 2015? Some SPECULATE that DMs will be gone and RXS will be running the show???

This is REAL and ACCURATE info. Most of the DM’s will be let go. ALL the CL’s will be taken out of their stores and take on more stores since DM’s will be gone. Some DMs will be offered a CL position or take a buyout. Asm’s will be promoted to the CL stores. Some CL’s will take store manager positions again in the cases of DM’s taking on a CL role. This is NOT BS

Majority of 24hr pharmacies are going 6am and 8am -midnight. Florida and Texas are starting next week.

Pharmacist “Jumping the Shark “?

powertripSomeone just told me that they had to pay $100 “interview fee” at a pharmacy to be accepted as a patient. WTF?  have you heard of anything like this yet?

here is what i was told the “policy” is: it was a fee for pharmacist to review your records and tests etc doctors have done to decide if they agree with what you get and If he believes you need it and if they will fill your scripts and other treatments they want you to try etc…….And they said I have to change for 30mg ****** to 20mg ****** and increase my ******* prescription  And the pharmacist said he wants me to try the spinal cord implanted stimulator.

At CVS our bottom line health is everything…

steppinginitThey decided to pick on the wrong person this time.. I called Silver Scripts/Caremark/CVS Health to get a vacation over-ride for one of my wife’s Rxs..  FIVE DAYS early for a non-control Rx that she has been on for years and for chronic condition.

I hate calling Silver Scripts.. because you have to go thru all these prompts where they are trying to get you to their mail order pharmacy… before you can talk to a representative about the issue at hand.

The representative that I talked to.. told me that IF they approved a early refill.. I WOULD HAVE TO GET IT FILLED AT A CVS PHARMACY

I am well aware that Medicare pts have FREEDOM OF CHOICE OF PROVIDER  unless you have signed up for a restrictive network to get lower premiums.

I told the representative that I did not use CVS Pharmacy… and previously on vacation overrides it was not a problem using the pharmacy that we normally patronize… she would check it out..  Well, it does appear that a pt’s freedom of choice of provider prevails. If you call them out on it..

Well… I practice what I preach.. after hanging up with Silver Scripts and a few mouse clicks I was on www.cms.gov to file a complaint of violation of pt’s freedom of choice and self-referral… by simple sending a email with what transpired and much to my surprise.. I got return email with a case number WITHIN ONE HOUR 🙂

I just wonder how many millions of dollars in sales that CVS Health has been able to divert from their competitors  using this tactic and the pt’s lack of knowledge of what their rights and the rules are. According to the email… I should hear something within 10 days 🙂

If they blow me off… I know of other avenues to help see that CMS and Silver Scripts do their job…

Economics 101

http://www.cbsnews.com/news/generic-drug-prices-skyrocketing/

http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/drug-costs-at-record-high/

Why some generic drug prices are skyrocketing

When you keep pushing manufacturers to keep lowering the cost of their product… they will consolidate… to try to drive prices down… until they realize that they have a monopoly or near monopoly position in the market place.. and good old capitalism kicks in… Charge whatever the market will bear. Could we see the Big Pharma’s bring their brand name drugs back out.. at a lower price than the generics ? Most likely you are going to see some drug become totally unavailable…because the CMS/PBM/insurance companies tend to drag their feet in bringing their reimbursement rates in line with the cost of buying  the medication.
