Race on the high seas: Cartels feature new, faster smuggling boats

http://www.foxnews.com/world/2015/01/16/race-on-high-seas-cartels-feature-new-faster-smuggling-boats/

Latin America’s drug cartels are leaving the U.S. Coast Guard in their wake, with new and faster speedboats law enforcement officials say are virtually undetectable by radar.

The new boats, nicknamed “Picudas,” after a tropical fish whose long, thin bodies they resemble, are made of fiberglass, making them invisible to radar and efficient with fuel. While older smuggling vessels took as long as three days to make the trip from Costa Rica to Jamaica, the Picuda can make the trip in two

What Good Is A Pot-Sniffing Dog When Pot Is Legal?

http://www.forbes.com/sites/jacobsullum/2015/01/15/what-good-is-a-pot-sniffing-dog-when-pot-is-legal/

Testifying before a House subcommittee last year, the head of the Drug Enforcement Administration warned that marijuana legalization is bad for dogs. DEA Administrator Michele Leonhart was talking about pets that inadvertently eat cannabis-infused snacks. But she could have been referring to marijuana-detecting police dogs, which face an uncertain future in jurisdictions where a whiff of pot is no longer evidence of a crime.

Rand Paul Slams the Disabled, Says More than Half are ‘Gaming the System’

Start your betting journey with free online slots. As a beginner, you should minimize your gambling spending until you become professional and familiar with many of these slot games(click here to know how to play slot games – https://www.slotsformoney.com). At a breakfast with New Hampshire state legislative leaders, probable 2016 GOP presidential candidate Sen. Rand Paul (KY) attacked Americans receiving disability payments, saying that they were gaming the system.

“The thing is, in all of these programs, there’s always somebody who’s deserving. But everybody in this room knows somebody who is gaming the system,” said Paul. “What I tell people is, if you look like me and you hop out of your truck, you shouldn’t be getting your disability check. Over half the people on disability are either anxious or their back hurts. Join the club!”

Of course, once video of Paul’s remarks started to make the rounds online, the senator’s office whipped out the standard “my remarks were taken out of context” defense that the GOP uses anytime one of its members says something offensive that they actually believe.

I wonder how many in the chronic pain community are on disability because they are unable to get adequate pain management and have been forced to be on Medicare disability by the DEA’s policies and their war on drugs/pts.

Paul is a potential Presidential candidate and leans toward the libertarian political point of view … IMO… his opinion on the disabled …could bury any chance of getting elected or.. if we could get his attention.. and commitment to get rid of the war on drugs… and get the DEA/DOJ out of interfering with the practice of medicine.. could get a lot of support behind him…  If you are on disability because you can’t get your pain adequately treated… would you vote for a candidate that could help you get adequate treatment so that you could go back to work ?

Suicide by DEA/judicial system ?

stevemailboxDrs who prescribe large amounts of narcotics are ” red flagged” are constantly being watched and are constantly being investigated. I had a rheumatologist who lost his license for over prescribing narcotics. Two days later he committed suicide. I have had RA since childhood. Every lab test was quite clear for this with all the classic objective symptoms. The most narcotic pain med he ever prescribed for me was hydrocodone 7.5 1-2 tabs a day as needed, only during flares. Now the remaining rheumatologist in this city do not want to prescribe narcotics.

OVER PRESCRIBING is such a nebulous term.. Especially if it is determine by those in the judicial system with no medical background… just a badge, ego and an agenda..

Consumer: Costco gave my mom the wrong pills

http://www.bakersfieldnow.com/news/health/Consumer-Costco-gave-my-mom-the-wrong-pills-288488571.html?tab=video&c=y

A representative of Costco from their corporate office responded Wednesday to our request for comment, providing the following statement:

“While I cannot speak to any specifics of the details contained in your story, I can tell you Costco takes these matters very serious.

We have internal policies and procedures designed to prevent errors from happening and should one occur we have procedures in place to investigate and find potential ways to prevent them from happening again in the future.

We are actively investigating these two reported incidents and once completed will take the aforementioned steps to find a solution to prevent future occurrences.”

The damn DEA won again !

While waiting for my lunch order to be brought to our table.. I was flipping thru my emails on my phone… trying to delete the trash/spam from the 70 odd emails in the inbox.. and abruptly stopped at this one.. From a pharmacist friend and started reading… the last sentence really pissed me off… because another suicide caused by the good ole boys at the DEA.  Isn’t assisted suicide a crime ? Here is the definition of  Genocide is the systematic murder or destruction of a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group. Maybe the “killing off” of the disabled in this country that is “taxing” our Medicare/Medicaid healthcare system is not a genocide.. just a thinning of the heard or survival of the fittest .. sort of dog -eat -dog.  As in this case… this person.. was just allowed to do herself in and just “vanish from the radar ”  Since she wasn’t a celebrity.. no big fuss…

Perhaps everyone needs to reread this post from back in Aug 2014.. showing how the DOJ is imposing its moral beliefs on our society with intimidation…

Does this sound familiar ?

A good friend of mine, a nurse who worked at a LTC in Kokomo (she just took a new job) told me the woman who died in Fowler IN was indeed a suicide from chronic pain. One of her co workers was a friend of the woman and told my friend her pain not been getting treated properly and decided F*** it. Very sad. I told my friend unfortunately that was my first thought when I saw that she had suffered from pain issues in the story write up. thought you would want to know for your blog. There was never any follow up in the paper. I’m sure it was out of respect for the family and friends.

The first comment is from a regular reader.. the second comment from Anonymous – don’t you just admire people who have convictions but not strong enough to put their name to their diatribe … but I digress …

It would seem that this anonymous person is from the Dunedin, FL area.. 37 K people in Pinellas county…  Tampa area…according to www.YP.com there is a total of three WAGS in that town.. if anonymous even works for WAGS. BE WELL… because your health is everything…

Walgreens has over built having 3 stores in 5 miles in my area. Next they refused and insulted me with my narcotics. So I will not spend a penny in the store. DEA had nothing to do with the lies I was told or their refusal to fill a legal prescription last year. I am sure that they may have decent staff somewhere that will be hurt but their discrimination caused them to lose money from me.

  • So many addicts on here this comical all the wag employees who read this already know what type of people are posting here don’t be mad cause you crackheads are denied fills from your shady doctors we don’t need or want you in our pharmacy we would rather tend to people who actually are sick our service level suffers from having to deal with you ass holes all day long the logistics of this post are unrealistic while some changes are inevitable
This wouldn’t fly in America folks

Per Steve: thanks for reading… how is the weather down there in Dunedin, FL with its THREE WALGREENS… I sure that all the snow birds just flock to your store looking to have their Rxs filled from their northern prescribers.. only to discover the “Florida pharmacy crawl”.. BE WELL !

DEA’s Own Hiring Policy Admits Pot Isn’t As Bad As Other Drugs

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/02/13/dea-hiring-policy-marijuana_n_4784042.html

WASHINGTON — As Drug Enforcement Administration officials warn of the threat of legalizing marijuana and insist that it’s one of the “most dangerous” controlled substances out there, along the lines of heroin and LSD, their claims are being undermined by an unlikely source: the agency’s very own drug policy.

Under the DEA’s hiring rules, an applicant for any agency position who admits to or is found to have used narcotics or dangerous drugs is not considered for employment. Any past use of heroin, LSD, cocaine, or even Adderall without a prescription immediately disqualifies an applicant for a job at the DEA.

The DEA’s one-and-only exception to the stringent policy? Marijuana.

Applicants who admit to “limited youthful and experimental use of marijuana” may get an exception from the policy, making it the single controlled substance that the DEA implicitly admits isn’t as bad as all other illegal drugs.

The DEA policy dates back at least seven years, as it was noted in a 2007 story about the FBI deciding to relax its own drug policy.

‘Well Beyond HIV’ Exhibit Celebrates Older Adults Living With HIV

http://www.edgeboston.com/news/news/170352/%27well_beyond_hiv%27_exhibit_celebrates_older_adults_living_with_hiv

They launched the campaign because by 2015, half of adults living with HIV in the U.S. will be 50 years old or older. Left unaddressed, older adults with HIV may lack the support needed to manage HIV and other chronic conditions commonly associated with aging.

As the population of older Americans living with HIV/AIDS grows, the daily realities, challenges and successes of their lives remain unrecognized and ignored. Through sharing their difficulties, battles and triumphs through captivating portraits and insightful testimonials, The Well Beyond HIV campaign allows audiences to experience real-life stories of inspirational Americans aging with HIV.

Through more than 800 Walgreens HIV-specialized pharmacies throughout the country, more than 2,000 HIV-trained pharmacists are leading consumer education and testing programs, helping patients access financial support programs and providing confidential, face-to-face medication therapy consultations and health and wellness guidance to people living and aging with HIV.

When it comes to engaging with a retail pharmacy, HIV patients of all ages need to feel they are in a safe, knowledgeable, environment where they can get the emotional, physical, social and financial support they need. Support is very important to this aging HIV population as they often experience social isolation resulting from having a lack of resources and the double stigma of older age (ageism) and an HIV-positive status.
