This showed up in my email today …

Do  you know who I would contact about Fry’s food store pharmacy?. I can’t believe that they told me if I found my prescriptions cheaper somewhere else. I could not ever come back to Fry’s because they won’t fill pain meds to someone who shops around. I understand keeping an eye on things, but you can’t go anywhere else and come back even IF NOT IN STOCK.  I feel like that’s a bit much, other ways to regulate for sure but I don’t even know who to contact… if you know.. thanks ahead of time…

Here is a website.. http://consumerist.com/2010/06/02/price-match-at-pharmacy/ that claims that Krogers, along with other chains, will price match. So why would anyone have to move their prescriptions from one pharmacy to another over price and since 90%+ of prescriptions are paid for by insurance.. which is the same price no matter where the prescriptions are filled.

I wonder if this is a company wide policy or just some ophiophobic RPh , PIC, PDM ?  I wonder if you asked them for the written Rx dept policy if they could provide it ?

Point of interest to everyone..  if someone tells you that they must do.. or they can’t do.. because that is the law or policy.. all you have to do ask them to provide you the chapter/verse.. so that you can look it up.. or ask them for a printed copy of the policy… If they give you a look … like deer in the headlights… you have just caught them in a lie.. If they can’t produce it.. it doesn’t exist.. if it doesn’t exist.. they can’t enforce it..

I know a former PDM from Krogers .. who quit to buy a independent pharmacy out in the boonies of KY.. and one time.. he told  me that all Krogers cared about was how many people came thru the front door and the average $$ each person  left behind at the register.

It sure doesn’t sound like a normal “Kroger plan” .. if 15%-20% of the typical Rx dept’s Rxs is for a controlled med…  I know, if a pharmacy told me what this pt told they were told.. I would take all my business (Pharmacy & Grocery) to a competitor that would take care of me.

  1. This was my statement and since moving to Fry’s the head pharmacist was let go. He was the reason I went there. I take morphine and percocets. These are the scripts I can’t shop around for. I thought I was going to have to pay out of pocket and was reminded of the policy. I was told by the head pharmacist about 9 months ago and reminded again in January when they were out of stock and again this month. They don’t even want you to go to another Fry’s if out of stock. I don’t care any longer because they fired the best guy in the whole place after like 20 yrs. I am going to ask for a written policy. Good idea!!! I think they should have to fill your script if they have it in stock and can verify it is legit.
