My email inbox is like a box of chocolates – you just never know what you are going to find !

It would seem that CVS sent a prior authorization ( PA) to someone other than the patient it was intended for.  In this case, the patient was getting a very sensitive medication that he/she may not have divulged to family & friends of his/her life style/disease state.

The person that received this misdirected PA, filed a complaint with the General Counsel of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania . The above image is the response from that same office.

It would seem that Pennsylvania is one of three states whose Board of Pharmacy (BOP) has not gotten around to promulgating rules that would require out of state mail order firms to have a license and a Pharmacist licensed in Pennsylvania in order to legally mail prescriptions into the state…

Apparently this misdirected letter originated in Arizona … so the General Counsel of PA … doesn’t have to bother with a HIPAA violation.

Isn’t it nice to know that our bureaucrats always have our back !
