Sometimes it’s hard to fathom just how pathetic a human being can be, but Maine’s Gov. Paul LePage offered yet another reminder Wednesday when he vetoed a bill designed to help save the lives of people who are addicted to opioids. The measure, which lawmakers rushed through in order to address the state’s growing epidemic, would have allowed pharmacies to sell a drug that swiftly counteracts opiate overdoses without a prescription. Kevin Miller reports on the ever-repugnant LePage and his justification for nixing the bill.
“Naloxone does not truly save lives; it merely extends them until the next overdose,” LePage wrote, repeating a contention that has caused controversy before. “Creating a situation where an addict has a heroin needle in one hand and a shot of naloxone in the other produces a sense of normalcy and security around heroin use that serves only to perpetuate the cycle of addiction.”
Pharmacy chains such as Rite Aid and CVS already dispense naloxone without a prescription in other states. About 30 states allow sales of the drug without a prescription.
CVS requested the bill in Maine after receiving a letter from U.S. Sen. Angus King of Maine asking the chain to expand the availability of the antidote. The bill got support from both law enforcement and health organizations during the legislative hearing.
Yep, you read that right—addicts’ lives aren’t worth saving ‘cuz they might overdose again. Seriously, what rock did they find this guy under? Everyone is rushing to save lives—Sen. King writes a letter, CVS jumps onboard, police and hospitals give a thumbs up, lawmakers pass it on a unanimous voice vote—and LePage strikes it, saying essentially, what’s the point? It’s just hard to find the words for such an unconscionably callous rationale. How in god’s name has such ignorance been visited upon the Maine governor’s office?

If what he says is true, then we should stop treating cancer because if cured it may come back, we should stop treating heart patients, because that diet was bad & they did this to themselves, we should no longer do organ transplants because they may be rejected!! Is not the WHOLE point of medicine to extend life & quality of that life?

Paul LePage is a governor, really? I thought he was a comic, and it was all a joke! There were enough votes when the bill passed to override the veto . . . At least he’s getting a lot of good press coverage with his base!

Maine’s führer, LePage, has openly advocated genocide, by this statement.
It costs $500 to file the lawsuit in US District Court, demanding damages for this crime against humanity. The court has jurisdiction of the Maine leader, through the Proxmire Act, which implements the United Nations treaty on genocide, within the United States. Anybody wronged by this statement, including me, has standing to sue out the case.

Hi Mr.Schubring,again,,I just looked it up,,the senator who passed this act was from Wisconsin,oops,,my bad,,,After discovering this,,a sick feeling came thru my soul..Recently I contacted my senator,,Tammy Baldwin,,I was requesting that the coroners here in Wisco had a extra box on their coroners report for ,”death due to untreated physical pain,”.Now her responds,,now knowing the Proximire Act was originated by a senator from our state,,,sickens me to my soul..Her responds was ,”prove it,”!!!Now did she mean,,kill myself to prove it as a chronic physical pain humanbeing,,or did she have this doctrine in her mind??I don’t know,,but,,,this Proximire Act is legit,,and is something to really conscider now,,,thank u for bringing this info to our attention,,,I’m with u,,Also what sickens me is ,I wonder if this is why our government REFUSES to acknowledge all the death they have caused,,by not allowing coroners to document the true reason for many of these supposed O.D.’S,, maybe they know if we start recording these death from untreated physical pain,,,we got him,,for genocide???!!!now to bad there isn’t an ,”act” for putting the stop the torture,,????maryw

Do you really believe that no one in the DEA or CDC or other government higher-ups uses pain relief? I’ll bet you many of them get THEIR pain adequately treated. We’re like the poor people being locked below and prevented from gaining access to the lifeboats – just like the Titanic.
Pain must make you angry – that is the effect it has on me. If we use the anger that is generated we can make positive change.
We cannot rant and rage – we have to organize. When we do – if I have to do it myself – I’m going to dress as Alice in Wonderland and hold a toy rabbit because I feel like I fell through the rabbit hole.
How about some men dressing like Hitler or victims of the Holocaust because this is nothing short of one.
I think we should ask celebrities to speak out. I looked it up and many have pain issues, like George Clooney and Angelina Jolie. If we ALL contact them – maybe we can prevail.
I do know one thing I have used when in dire need: Fasting. If anyone is familiar with biblical history, fasting was used in times of great need. I am unable to do it now – but plan to. It does work, when your life is free of sin. You can google “Fasting for Spiritual Breakthrough.” The more people who appeal to our Maker in fasting and prayer will allow us to prevail.

Bob, if I thought that justice would prevail in a lawsuit I would do it. However, that has not been my experience. You “may” get an honest judge. I believe we need to raise awareness through a march. Will anyone do this???
This man from Maine is an ass ! I have nerve damage that causes chronic pain, I never abused or o.d. . Untreated chronic pain is torture ! No sleep can’t eat trapped in my body . Make him experience my pain he would not be able to do it . Is he a doctor ? Does he suffer from chronic pain ? I am being denied medical intervention because of him and people like him , tell me of Freedom ? Mandatory health care insurance! No doctor. If you ask me that is theft of service.
