Is corporate America’s pursuit of increased profits bad for the economy?

They claim that 80% of our economy is dependent on consumers’ spending. IMO.. it doesn’t take a MBA to figure out that if corporate America creates a work environment where most employees are uncertain about job security.. because with the current high unemployment situation… the employer finds it very easy to keep threatening and replacing employees .. just because they can.. That employees are going to spend less and/or not buy items in certain category(s) only when forced to because the item HAS TO BE REPLACED and can’t be repaired or too expensive to repair.

Some categories of product sales depend on “wants” rather than “needs”… all one has to do is look at the smart phone sales/market.. as am example…  Who really NEEDS a new model of a smart phone every 12 months?

Who would have even mentioned, believed or discussed 10 yrs ago that Pharmacists would not have job security within 10 yrs… and in the opinion of many..the worse/peak is still 3-5 yrs off.

There was a news piece on the TV today… highlighting new college graduates having trouble getting jobs… because the employers were looking for people with more experience… Being at/near “the point” of the baby boomers… it was all too common a comment when  trying to find a job in my teens… how do you get experience… if you can’t get the first job…

However, it would seem that corporate pharmacy wants new graduates with little/no experience  and tossing out the older, more experienced RPh’s… As if, experience and wisdom is a “undesirable” characteristic.  Maybe, it is this way in pharmacy because we have become more and more dependent on techs to basically “run the show”.. and RPH’s are there to keep the dept legal and accept responsibility for all the mistakes/errors that are made while the RPH is trying to keep track of and know what a handful of technicians are doing/saying around you.

Update 04/12/2013 – it was reported today, that retail sales were DOWN for NINE MONTHS IN A ROW !
