Naloxone ‘Stigma’ a Barrier to Prescribing?

http://www.medpagetoday.com/Psychiatry/Addictions/45164?xid=nl_mpt_DHE_2014-04-10&utm_content=&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=DailyHeadlines&utm_source=WC&eun=g578717d0r&userid=578717&

A twin-pak auto injector with Naloxone has come to market.  A TWIN PAK .. REALLY?..  Will this allow prescribers to CYA themselves.. by… providing every pt in long term opiate therapy?… allow people who have a tendency to abuse opiates and other substances to “push the limit” of abusing substances knowing that they can rescue themselves when they have mis-calculated? Or  is prescribed judicially .. it is really a issue of best practices  ?

With  centralized (EMR) medical records coming.. or an insurance company using claims submitted… is a patient getting a prescription filled for this product…   at risk of  a BIG RED “A”.. as in ADDICT  being placed on their records?

Is prescribing this medication a risk or benefit ?

  1. Naloxone would be good for those new to chronic pain and opioid medication.
But for me having been suffering for years ,I know I don’t need it because I have my medications separated and am confident nothing will happen. After all I live alone and don’t abuse any of my medications. I stopped drinking because alcohol increases my pain and doesn’t mix with any medication of any type.
I know my chronic pain will always be there but am confident I’m able to live day to day as pain free as possible. I’m at peace with myself even though I still have chronic pain. I don’t believe my pain will ever get to a point where I can no longer control it.
