DEA seeking “funding” from just about anyone ?

Feds charge FedEx with assisting illegal pharmacies

A couple of years ago DEA  “went after” Cardinal Wholesaler, accusing them of selling more controlled drugs to two CVS pharmacies in Sandford, FL than Cardinal should have known that they were not for legit medical purposes. Keep in mind that Cardinal never saw any prescriptions nor pts.. but the DEA’s logic was that Cardinal knew or should have known.. In the end, Cardinal’s distribution center in central FL lost its DEA license for a period of two years.

From the article:

Federal authorities on Thursday charged FedEx with assisting illegal pharmacies by knowingly delivering painkillers and other dangerous drugs to customers without prescriptions.

The indictment was filed in federal court in San Francisco, and the Department of Justice announced the charges in Washington, D.C. The indictment alleges that FedEx Corp. conspired with two related online pharmacies for 10 years ending in 2010.

The Memphis, Tennessee-based delivery company is accused of shipping powerful sleeping aid Ambien, anti-anxiety medications Valium and Xanax, and other drugs to customers who had no legitimate medical need and lacked valid prescriptions.

Rival shipping company UPS Inc. paid $40 million last year to resolve similar allegations, and the Atlanta-based company said it would “take steps” to block illicit online drug dealers from using its delivery service.

Google Inc. agreed to pay $500 million to settle allegations by the Justice Department that it profited from ads for illegal online pharmacies.

I guess that whatever monies that Congress is allocating to fight this war on drugs.. is considered insufficient by the DEA and they need to find alternative resources to fund their operations.. since they get to “keep” fines that they impose.  One has to ask.. is allowing them to keep the fines that they impose.. the proper incentive to law enforcement to set priorities? It is amazing the we can spend nearly ONE BILLION A WEEK to fight this war on drugs and are we able to measure any progress at all after abt 45 yrs.?

And… in a similar time frame.. the DEA has imposed >100 million in fines on just WAGS and CVS.

Who is going to be next on the DEA’s “hit list” to be fined.. for “touching” controlled meds ? What is next … MC, VISA & AMEX for facilitating the payment for the meds shipped from this allegedly illegal online pharmacies ?  Was there no controlled meds shipped by USPS ?… or because they are a quasi governmental agency.. they are being given a “free pass “?

  1. Since local pharmacies are refusing to fill legitimate prescriptions it makes sense that the next stop to enforce suffering would be the ones that deliver mail order. I certainly would prefer to continue using the same pharmacy I spent money at for the last 30 years. Now due to their discrimination I have a phone pharmacist instead of one I have paid more to use stupidly. I now have to trust one states away along with the delivery system and wait days. Great idea.

  2. USPS had their own investigative force and since they’re running in the red. Wouldn’t put it past them to be in the cohoots with the DEA. I wouldn’t be surprised on that Steve’s list was next and I’m sure DEA has already data mined receipiants and will be paying them a visit next. Holder is on the same power grab as his boss, but take notice he is very selectively picking and choosing which laws to enforce DEA at home vs illegal immigration…pass

  3. Too dangerous on on the streets where the real drug problems are, no bullets to dodge when they infiltrate our doctor’s offices and now this? I agree, another power grab with easy money/no danger. Embezzlement, pure & simple. Shame on them, picking on a population that already has enough to endure, the disabled!

  4. Its an out and out unrestrined power grab. As soon as we get the vote out and get a Congress with BACKBONE and override power the sooner Mr Fundraiser and his minions will be slapped back into they’ re place as per the Constitution
And just how was Fedex supoosed to know the ‘pharmacies were bogus??
