Florida Board of Pharmacy…. we condone unacceptable behaviors by Pharmacists ?

stevemailbox

I wrote a complaint to BOP.  I got a response that “though the behavior is unacceptable”, “there is no law requiring that a pharmacist fill a prescription should he/choose not to do so.”   There has been a lot of publicity the that last few weeks about other patients being denied pain medication by pharmacies such as the 4 y.o. cancer patient post surgery and today hospice and cancer patients. Some pharmacist are helping the patients, others are not.  I wish I could attend the upcoming meeting, however, I am still recovering.  If I need pain meds in the future I may have to move to another country. Hopefully, DEA, BOP and GAO start taking the issue seriously.

This short note showed up in my inbox.. Of course, it is from FLORIDA…  I am trying to get my hands on the letter itself… but.. it would appear that the FL BOP… has no problem with unacceptable behavior by the Pharmacists licensed in Florida… I would what other unacceptable behaviors by Pharmacists that they would find unacceptable but chose not to ignore but call them before the BOP for UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT ?

The primary charge of all the Boards of Pharmacy is to protect the health and safety of the general public… I guess that it all depends on what the BOP considers health & safety… apparently denial of care, pt abuse, causing pts to intentionally be in elevated pain and/or intentionally being thrown into withdrawal…. is not part of protecting the health and safety of the general public.

I am sure that it gives everyone the “warm fuzzies” in how the FL BOP is watching out for everyone’s health and safety..

  1. […] I blogged about a email that I received from a pt in FLORIDA… https://www.pharmaciststeve.com/?p=11269       where the pt made a complaint against a Pharmacist for refusing to fill the pt’s […]

  2. I think part of the problem is the State BOP sits with Retail Execs as board members who push their companies agendas …..

    • They are not all retail execs… but all the ones that are licensed Pharmacists on the BOP.. are non-practicing Pharmacists and upper management or execs of some large corporation.. I think the “lowest ranking corporate pharmacist” on the BOP is a district manager for WAGS

  3. OMG yes, I have warm fuzzies all over! NOT………
The prescription problem NEEDS to be resolved NOW. My doctor was paid a visit from the DEA. He is afraid of losing his license like many other doctors. Same with Pharmacists! This nonsense has got to STOP NOW. Legitimate chronic pain patients have every RIGHT to take the medications NEEDED for their chronic pain from severe illnesses. I’ve suffered from a neuromuscular disorder called Charcot Marie Tooth since I was 5 years old. At age 32 I became wheelchair bound because the disease deformed my feet. Luckily I found a surgeon who reconstructed both of my feet and I learned to walk again. BUT I suffer with severe nerve pain and chronic muscle spasms from the disease. On top of all of this I was HIT head-on by a drunk driver on April 13th 2015. I suffered a severe head injury and many herniated discs in my neck and back. I also have arthritis and scoliosis. I have a hard time getting out of bed in the morning, and I can barely move and function until my medicine starts working in the morning. Chronic pain patients like myself and millions of others should NOT have to LIVE like this. What the DEA has done is INHUMANE. We patients should NOT have to suffer, we have a right to TRY to live a semi mobile life. AND YES that’s what it is a SEMI MOBILE life that we live. We would give anything to be NORMAL and NOT have to cope with chronic pain 24/7. Not have to use a walker or cane or a wheelchair… I did NOT ask for this pain, I did not ask for this disease, I did not ask to be hit by a drunk driver. I would give anything to live a normal life without chronic pain and pain medication!!!! Those who are NOT walking in our shoes daily have NO IDEA what we cope with. STOP this NONSENSE NOW!!! STOP threatening the doctors and pharmacists. We “LEGITIMATE” chronic pain sufferers deserve BETTER. There is a HUGE difference between addicts and LEGITIMATE chronic pain patients!
