  1. Bless his heart; bless both of their hearts. How this country treats its vets is abominable & obscene, but the bonds formed between those who served together can be the strongest, most honorable, & best thing humans can do.

    thank you for posting this.

  2. What a wonderful, heartwarming story. We owe much to our military and their families. It breaks my heart to see the disrespect to our flag and country after so much sacrificing from our military and law officers.

  3. The brotherhood formed in battle is one of the strongest known to man, surpassing even that associated with immediate family members. The fact that this Marine (Marines will tell you that there is no such thing as a “retired Marine”) kept his promise and stood guard by his friend’s coffin attests to this fact.

For those reading this comment that have not lived long enough to join the “octogenarian club”, I can (from personal experience) tell you the following. If this 83 year-old had to stand for any length of time in the “guard stance” shown, he did it with a lot of discomfort and, I expect that only his determination to keep his promise to a fellow friend and Marine kept him going.

Both he, and his deceased friend, deserve all the gratitude we can give them for their service. In the case of the 83-year old, having the moral fortitude to honor a promise made years in the past, puts him head and shoulders above so many that would have found excuses for not keeping that promise.

  4. Lets hope he left this earth knowing that we were thankful for his service and we loved him for fighting for this country!! Too many times theres no rhyme or reason for these wars. The men an woman go when called upon and deserve nothing but respect for putting there lifes on the line for this country
Thank you for your service! R.I.P.
