Careful what you ask for !

cvsCOLI recently got a email from another “Senior Rph”.. where this RPh related that a conversation that been had with a PharmD candidate and this young – soon to be Pharmacist – made the statement that “Senior Rph’s'” need to step aside.. they have had their career and allow the new Pharmacist generation to have their jobs.

Then there is this email that I received today….

Yes!  Things are beginning to shake up in my district.  Call any store in my district and the phones aren’t being answered any more.  Gone is the 20 seconds!  You are lucky if any one even picks up a phone.  And when they do, they are very rude.  I have called acting like I am trying to inquire about my prescription and am irate how long it took for them to even answer the phone.  Pharmacist after pharmacist have told me “look I don’t have any help – I don’t care what CVS is saying”!  They sound more frustrated than in the past but they are the ones who wanted us out so they could have our jobs!  Yep – things are changing.  Thanks Steve for being there!
During my career.. I have seen the profession move from a independently dominated profession.. thru a RPH’s shortage and to the point where we are dominated by  publicly held corporations with non-practicing Pharmacists, non-Pharmacists and PBM’s dictating how our profession functions …and a growing surplus of RPh’s.
I am being told of newly minted RPh’s that are being told that they need to be “PIC ready” and/or “PDM ready” within months of being licensed. .. and now we are seeing a growing investigative reporters focusing on the consequences of all of this inexperience and “do more with less staff” philosophy …
Nero watched as Rome burned to the ground..  collectively, are we going to watch the same thing happen to our profession ?
