Working long hours raises risk of depression

Here is recent report on Fox News about how long hours can add to depression. Depression is – by itself – can be a distraction or create a lack of focus. Both can create an environment that could induce med errors. There are report after report that long hours causes fatigue and those same studies demonstrate how fatigue can increase med errors. Between what we are agreeing to do and what our employers insisting that we do.. timing metrics, long hours, minimum staffing, extreme multi-tasking…
stacking the deck against us.. or worse yet .. against the patients who trust us to fill their prescriptions safely and accurately. Since the corporate permit holder is not a licensed professional… when things go wrong – and they do go wrong – who is the board and the legal system going to go after for failing to maintain a safe work environment in the Rx dept… Could working voluntarily under such conditions.. be consider UNPROFESSIONAL CONDUCT ?
How does a Pharmacist begin to defend oneself against the legal system or the BOP under such a charge. The studies are everywhere and plentiful.. The corporate permit holder is going to use ignorance or denial in its defense… “If the Pharmacist(s) were having a concern.. we would have addressed those concerns.. .. we have no record (in writing) about any of them expressing concerns…” “… we were not aware of of any of these studies…”
