Is the media and patients starting to have enough about med errors?

From a  report from Fox 31 Denver  a Mother claims THREE MED ERRORS in two weeks for this one family.

Walgreen’s statement…  Walgreen’s spokesman Robert Elfinger released this statement: “We have a multi-step prescription filling process with numerous safety checks in each step to reduce the chance of human error. We will investigate what happened and what can be done to prevent it from happening again.”

Notice in the article… they even put the website to file a complaint with the state BOP about med errors.. something that you don’t see often…

Could we see the number of articles on med errors equal or surpass the number of articles about drug abuse and drug overdoses soon ?

Will the BOP’s be forced by the media to get their act together and forced to address work environment issues that can be the genesis of a larger per-cent of these med errors?

IMO… in this particular incident.. if the RPH’s in the this store had concerns about the staffing levels or other things that are helping to cause med errors and had not put those concerns in writing and sent to management and HR… then they deserve whatever consequences they get… If they had been sending emails prior to this incident(s)… and those emails would have gotten “leaked” to the media doing this story… the Walgreen’s response would be meaningless… in shifting the blame to the staff at the pharmacy.

“This pharmacy needs to get its act together. This is a big deal,” says Dr. Leach.

IMO… Dr Leach is partially correct…. THE PROFESSION OF PHARMACY needs to get its act together
