Bah! Humbug! ACLU sues over Christmas tree cross

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/12/11/bah-humbug-aclu-sues-over-christmas-tree-cross.html

For as far back as anyone can remember, there’s always been a cross atop the Christmas tree on the square in Knightstown, Indiana.

But that could change if the Grinches at the American Civil Liberties Union of Indiana have their way.

The ACLU filed a federal lawsuit against the town on behalf of Joseph Tomkins,  a resident who said the image of the lighted cross has caused him “irreparable harm.

“The cross is the best known symbol of Christianity and Knightstown’s prominent display of this symbol represents an establishment of religion in violation of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution,” the lawsuit states.

The lawsuit demands the immediate removal of the cross, monetary damages and a declaration that the cross display violates the First Amendment, the Indianapolis Star reports.

Mr. Tompkins alleges he is “forced to come into direct and unwelcome contact” with the cross as he drives through town.

It’s unclear whether the town will hire an attorney and fight this modern-day Ebenezer Scrooge, but many in this small town are ready to wage a yuletide legal battle.

“There’s a church on every corner here,” resident and relative Mark Tompkins told Fox 59.

  1. It is frivolous nonsense lawsuits like this that cause many to look at the aclu as left wing wackos.I am a liberal, but at times I’m almost ashamed to admit it because of scenarios like this.Seems to me the founders understanding of separation of church and state has absolutely nothing to do with a symbol on a tree at the holiday season. The man who finds this annoying should keep his eyes on the ground when he’s driving, and leave others alone. It is a symbol that has been part of American culture for 200 years and just as common as McDonald’s Golden arch.

  2. Why is it that only religious lawsuits are against Christian symbols? I have panic attacks when I see people wearing muslim attire! Can I sue for that? Not likely!

  3. It would seem as if the ACLU has their priorities all screwed up! They want to go to war over the constitutional right to freedom of religion but chronic pain sufferers are dying by the hundreds or thousands simply because they are being refused their constitutional right to life. I’m actually an Atheist/Naturalist, or more to the point I worship Mother Earth and Father Sky, and people who practice religious beliefs doesn’t bother me a bit. As long as they separate their religion from governmental decisions. My feeling is that if someone’s faith helps them get through the day then so be it. But if they are representing us in government, they can not use their religious beliefs to dictate how they make decisions on how they represent the people. The ACLU has turned into a headline pursuing bunch of what Donald J Trump says you can grab if your famous, or another term for a Cat, Assholes. In other words, they are only going to pick the fights that are trivial actions and that give them headlines.
