THE NEW REALITY

According to this survey… Most RPH’s working in all pharmacy settings describe themselves as “satified” to “extremely satisfied” with their current position, and attitude that can be attributed to low unemployment, good salaries and benefits and annual raises..

Pharmacy as a Career Choice?

YES!

http://www.pharmacistactivist.com/2013/PDFs/April_2013.pdf

During most of my experience in pharmacy, employment opportunities for pharmacists and student pharmacists have been readily available. However, the “job market” for pharmacists has tightened considerably during the last several  years in many parts of the country. Many 2013 pharmacy graduates have not yet identified a full-time employment opportunity
With the current and future uncertainties regarding employment opportunities for pharmacists, I am asked with increasing frequency whether I still highly recommend pharmacy as a career choice to young people who are making these decisions. My response is an emphatic YES!
Maybe I just hear/read from disgruntled RPH’s and/or RPH’s just less than competent.. that are having trouble with finding employment.. or they are just in a store/chain where 32 hrs is now the norm for “full time”.. or for some other less than qualifiable issue…

  1. Hi Steve, I’m guessing these “two” perspectives are probably alive and well in most professions. Some of it may be due to different work environments. But as community pharmacists we ALL know that complaints are always louder than compliments. We are all (sad to say) far more likely to speak up when things are going wrong than when they are going well. Sometimes “disgruntled” pharmacists just don’t believe ANYONE can actually be happy in our profession. Equally, satisfied pharmacists sometimes just don’t “get it” when they hear about those who have been mistreated and singled out for discrimination. I think we need to listen to both universes…thanks for this post!!

  2. Not just a parallel universe, but another planet in a galaxy far,far away!
