  1. I am a chronic pain patient.I was totally abandoned by the healthcare system other than immediate discontinuation. My Dr. simply retired and because I took an opiate I could not even get an appointment with a Dr. I suffered heart issues from tapering too rapidly.I suffer emotionally and physically due to this.I can relate and I knew there would be people who said this child wasn’t on Facebook, etc. expressing issues with pain.We have been stigmatized as drug addicts, criminals, and worse therefore we don’t speak out for fear of more guilt trips put on us.Read her obituary. She was a child in pain and not only would no one listen, very few understand, and the vast majority just don’t care or are misguided. This genocide by suicide activity must stop.A beautiful young child.God Bless You Dear.

  2. I found her aunts video about this and text messages she wrote to a suicide text line and it said nothing about pain it said she was upset because she couldnt make cupcakes look up her relatives on facebook you’ll see not one comment mentions pain .

    • Or you could just accept the loss of life of a lovely young lady as a tragedy regardless of circumstance and stop being such a ….

    • Here is a quote from her obit Akaiah could no longer fight the pain after years of battling chronic migraine headaches.
and here is the last line in her obit Our family requests that anyone who knows about a potential suicide to please speak up, let someone know.
maybe I have jumped to a conclusion… but … given the fact that the obit was not that long.. including the above sentences… my opinion/conclusion remains unchanged

    • With all due respect, Paula, not being allowed to make cupcakes does not drive one to suicide. Steve copied word for word from the article, which I’m sure the family would be demanding to be redone if it were wrong.

    • Maybe she couldn’t make cupcakes because her head hurt too much? There is nothing in that statement that says she wasn’t allowed vs she was unable, and the latter was much more likely. Given what was in the obituary I’d go with what the parents say.

  3. I am SO SORRY for the young lady and her family. Been to Sneads Ferry….many times. MAYBE the NC Medical Board will take note but, I doubt it. Don’t know what to say. I appreciate you publishing this Steve however, there are no words to comfort for an un necessary young life lost when there is help to manage pain…..now, not more years from now.
