Hospital Visits Fell When Seniors Got Drug Coverage

Comparing national records from before and after 2006, when Part D kicked in, they found that drug coverage was associated with an 8% drop in hospital admissions and nearly as much in hospital-cost savings — an amount they calculate to be $1.5 billion a year.
For some conditions, the fall in admissions that came with Part D coverage was striking: down 20% for dehydration; down 32% for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease; down 18% for congestive heart failure; down 13% for coronary atherosclerosis.
For abt 40 yrs.. Medicare was pay for you to go to the hospital under Part A and would pay to have your disease state diagnosed under Part B.. after that.. you were on your own to pay for medication to manage your disease states. In 2006, Medicare finally caught up with what is the norm in health insurance… and it seems that the results are positive
