Who is going to win ?

SRAcrystalballAs many of us have read… the FDA committee voted 19 to 10 to move Hydrocodone to C-II.. they have been trying to get this done for nearly two decades. The open comment period ended at midnight last night. It will be interesting if more opiophoic healthcare professionals and those in the general public that have a irrational belief that opiates – themselves – are addicting or those who have a medical necessity for opiates will make more comments and make a better case.

IMO.. it is eventually going to happen.. maybe not just this time… the bureaucrats have to do something.. to allow them to have press releases about how they are escalating the war on drugs.

It they do pass it this time… all of you Pharmacists out there should start keeping your eye on the APAP c Codeine inventory.. Since approx 30 mg of Codeine is equal to 5 mg of Hydrocodone and APAP/Cod can still be called in and given refills…  My crystal ball says that this will be the “next big thing” in what doc’s write for and maybe what will be in demand on the street.

Besides at last I heard… all opiates with APAP will have to reduce their amount of APAP to no more than 325 mg… as of Jan 2014….So your inventory of generic HCD/APAP should consist of only four SKU’s.

  1. I’ll be happy to see it CII. Should add Soma and anything with codeine to that list. Just my opinion.
