Tom Frieden, the former director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, was arrested Friday morning and charged with forcible touching, sexual abuse and harassment.

Frieden allegedly grabbed a 55-year-old woman’s buttocks inside his residence in Brooklyn in October, according to an NYPD representative. The incident was reported to the police in July, and Frieden turned himself in on Friday.

He is expected to appear in court Friday afternoon.

Frieden, who was CDC director from 2009 to 2017, was one of the agency’s longest-serving heads. He oversaw the agency’s response to several major outbreaks, including Ebola, the H1N1 swine flu pandemic and Zika.

Before that, he was New York City’s health commissioner from 2002 to 2009, leading the city’s response to top outbreaks including multidrug-resistant tuberculosis and spearheading the elimination of transfats and smoking in NYC restaurants.

Frieden is widely regarded as one of the top public health authorities in the world, and is credited with increasing U.S. involvement in fighting the 2014-16 Ebola outbreak. He helped secure billions of dollars in global funding to turn the tide in the outbreak, which killed 11,300 people.

Frieden is currently the CEO of Resolve, an initiative backed by Bloomberg Philanthropies, the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation that aims to save 100 million lives and increase global epidemic preparedness.

A CDC spokesman declined to comment.

This is a developing story. Please check back for updates.

Frieden and Kolodny reportedly worked together at the New York city’s health dept and apparently this is how Kolodny and a few other anti-opiate zealots got the CDC to have a closed door – no public comment – on the opiate dosing guidelines that they published in early 2016.  Some question if the CDC had the legal authority to even publish such dosing guidelines…since their primary charge is to deal with contagious diseases and chronic pain and addiction are not contagious

  1. Nepotism much? Just goes to show it’s not what you know, it’s who. Not only did the CDC overstep their boundaries with the guidelines, they did so while keeping the public in the dark. You’d think the public would be outraged but no, because they put enough lipstick on that pig that it looks appealing. The level of deviousness involved in this should make anyone that values the so-called rights and freedoms that we have in this country sick to their stomachs. If this could happen with the treatement of chronic pain that is now leaching over into other areas of the medical field, like the lack of post surgical pain management even when it’s been evidenced as necessary to prevent complications and prevent further issues, it can happen to ANYTHING. As far as this handsy man, that used to be King of the CDC, it doesn’t surprise me in the least. Power will go to your head, especially when it’s unlimited. Look at Kolodny. He’s a prime example. The public takes his word as the incontrovertible truth. He says chronic pain patients are nothing more than addicts, it becomes a mantra in the medical field. He says learn to get over pain, that’s what our doctors regurgitate to us when we tell them we can’t do this because our quality of life is nil. He says this war is about addiction and we must fight it on all fronts, chronic pain patients are the first to be attacked, then doctors, then pharmaceutical companies and anyone that doesn’t want to get run over jumps right up on his bandwagon. If we dont get Kolodny off of his soapbox soon, he will dig up even more precious pearls of wisdom to share and even more people will suffer. Why couldn’t he have been the one to grab somebody? Ugh.

    • C’ly Pained:
Well put. And I also dearly wish He Who Must Not Be Named got caught handsing or with a goat or something. Maybe flopped over drooling with a needle in his arm.

I used to be a decent person, but no longer: now I devoutly pray that he & his ilk develop excruciating intractable pain & are denied any relief whatsoever. Friends tell me karma will come around, but not fast enough as far as I’m concerned.
