Forcing someone to do the “bakery crawl” can have some serious financial consequences

CakesnewFamily bakery closes after left-wing bullies finally get their pound of cake

Our system/society can allow healthcare discrimination against chronic pain pts and can declare that those who are suffering from the mental health disease of addictive personality disorder.. and only those addicted to opiates and meth… all those addicted to the drugs Nicotine and Alcohol are given a “get out of jail free” card.

But refused to bake a wedding cake because of difference in religious beliefs…  Although the First Amendment to the Constitution provides:

The First Amendment (Amendment I) to the United States Constitution prohibits the making of any law respecting an establishment of religion, impeding the free exercise of religion, abridging the freedom of speech, infringing on the freedom of the press, interfering with the right to peaceably assemble or prohibiting the petitioning for a governmental redress of grievances.

Apparently Congress failed to take into consideration the First Amendment when they wrote anti-discrimination laws.

So apparently this couple – for following their religious beliefs  – have been engaged in a THREE YEAR court battle,  fined $135,000 by the state of Oregon and have had to shutter their family bakery.  I guess that those chronic pain pts that have to endure the “pharmacy crawl” to get their medically necessary/ legal prescriptions is just a fact or life… and I guess that there is no comparable “bakery crawl”… without breaking some law ?

In 2013 a small family bakery in Northwestern Oregon refused to make a cake for a lesbian wedding.

The owners of Sweet Cakes by Melissa had no idea that their decision to follow the teachings of their Christian faith would lead to a multi-year legal battle. It’s a battle still being waged.

Aaron and Melissa Klein were eventually punished by the state of Oregon. — The couple was fined $135,000 for refusing to participate in the lesbian wedding event.

It was the price they had to pay for refusing to violate their conscience.

They also made the painful decision to close their beloved bakery – for good.

The left-wing bigots and bullies finally got their pound of cake.

The Kleins made the announcement on the now-shuttered shop’s Facebook page.

“The Kleins closed their business months ago and simply now updated their page to reflect that,” said Hiram Sasser, an attorney for First Liberty Institute.

First Liberty is one of the nation’s most prestigious law firms handling religious liberty cases.

“We are continuing our appeal and look forward to achieving justice for them and all people of faith who may find themselves in similar circumstances in the future,” Sasser told me.

To be clear, Aaron and Melissa Klein did not go looking to engage in a fight with the LGBT community. The fight came to them and to their business.

Since that day more than three years ago, the Kleins have faced unrelenting attacks from the LGBT community. Their business was boycotted. They were bullied. Their children received death threats.

The Kleins were literally run out of business by an anti-Christian mob.

It’s hard to believe that something like this could happen in the land of the free, the home of the brave.

But we live in a nation that pledges its allegiance to the Rainbow flag – a nation where gay rights now trump everyone else’s rights.

  1. This bakery wasn’t fined that amount because of the discrimination. They were fined that because of emotional stress on this couple, and that was from making all their personal information public. They nearly ruined the couple’s adoption of some foster kids.

I don’t know why anyone is upset at the money this bakery had to pay, they ended up raising twice as much online and their business is booming while they continue to discriminate. Had they said to other people “No, we won’t serve you because you’re Jews” or “No, we won’t serve you because you’re black” or “No, we won’t serve you because you’re disabled” no one would have made a huge story over this. But because some people feel that those different from themselves should be discriminated against it is a huge story.

  2. Dear Loretta Lynch head of the DOJ,
While listening to a news report last night about the issues facing trangender person’s in regard to bathroom laws, I couldn’t help but think that most of what you said could applied right now to pain patients nationwide. All people deserve “the dignity and respect that we accord our fellow citizens”, and as you said we want to protect our citizen’s against “state sponsored discrimination.” Please understand that the chronic pain community is experiencing a similar and devastating plight currently.
This type of discrimination is being experienced by chronic pain patients nationwide. They are unable to find doctors who will treat pain. There is a media campaign that has resulted in many patients being stigmatized as addicts and treated cruelly with much bias. People who take medications for pain are being tagged as “drug seekers” in emergency rooms and turned out without adequate medical care for genuine medical emergencies. There are reports of medically stable patients being suddenly and without warning being taken of their medications because doctors are afraid to treat them any longer due to this atmosphere of fear and bias. There are reports of patients dying.
Won’t you please be the champion and voice for those pain patients who are suffering as well? What these new laws, regulations and media articles do is create a negative bias towards those suffering in pain and as you said so succinctly said we don’t want to “inflict further indignity on a population that has already suffered far more than its fair share.” Those who are severely disabled by painful conditions should not have to experience further bias and discrimination on top of their illnesses. Perhaps this is the worse type of discrimination possible.
    Naaahhh…………….guess we don’t count.

  3. If anyone on here is familiar with Steve Crowder, he is a conservative blogger and podcaster. He rants on the SJWs, progressives and leftists quite a bit. His hidden camera bits are hilarious because he take on the left and proves they are unable to even answer the question but give a runaround instead. but yet you would never see them on the MSM (because he is anti SJW, anti progressive). There is one video podcast where he went around to Muslim bakeries and asked the same question that was asked of this bakery.(on you tube) …make a wedding cake for a same sex wedding….The answer of course was no at every single one and yet not one of these bakeries was fined, protested against, etc or received the same treatment as those who refused based on their Christian beliefs. The left is a bunch of hypocrites…..their definition….Freedom of Speech is fine as long as you agree and only agree with what I say, if not you are a bigot, etc. We don’t have much time……vote the bums out of office to get our country back

  4. I don’t understand what happened here. It would be helpful if an article like this contained at least SOME legal info so readers could at least get an idea of what took place.

  5. It’s sick when only those with what I consider abberent choices and behavior have any rights in this country which was supposed to have been built on freedom. While I personally think same sex marriage is wrong and against every law of nature if it’s what someone wants then they can go for it, just don’t force me to participate on ANY level! To have legal businesses forced out because they refused service is abominable! Every business you enter has a sign reserving the right to refuse business and that refusal shouldn’t be only for not wearing a shirt or shoes!
