The DEA is so successful in New Mexico in preventing access to the ILLEGAL DRUG Heroin … that it has ONLY FIVE TIMES rate as the national average. I guess that future job security for the DEA in New Mexico is pretty secure …

There is not a pain management doctor in my area that doesn’t insist on injections! Not one! That doesn’t make the legitimate chronic pain patient the one in the wrong-it is these doctors that know patients are suffering and don’t care, as long as they get the $$$$$$ for the injections! They don’t care what it does to the patient, they don’t care if it even helps the patient-all they care about is their bank accounts! Pain patients are just screwed! We get persecuted by the DEA because innocent patients are so much easier to find than the junkies on the street; our doctors do as many procedures/injections on us as they can to make money, NOT just to help us: pharmacies treat us like some junkie that crawled in from the street instead of PATIENTS THAT HAVE HEALTH PROBLEMS WE NEVER ASKED FOR AND SURE THE HELL DIDN’T WANT-we are screwed. We are considered useless to society because of our health problems and the powers that be want us gone. People are killing themselves because they are being denied medical attention. God help us! (But I bet any high up official in pain gets whatever they want).
Funny. My pain specialist had 21 procedures scheduled just for Tuesday and yes you have to agree to get the medication.
So then what is it that the DEA is doing about the Heroin epidemic? The people putting on patches or putting a fentanyl pop in their mouth for break-through pain aren’t abusing their medications.
The abuse is happening on the streets or in the bad doctors offices.
Find the doctors that are in it for the cash money. Find the doctors that have a high rate of making patients get injections, and won’t give out scripts unless patients get those injections. Only then will the DEA find the addicts and the doctors that need to have their licence revoked.
The fentanyl patches did well for my chronic pain for several years. I hope that it continues to be available for pain management. I am afraid that anyone that uses street drugs take a chance .
All I can say about the Fentanyl patches is that they worked GREAT on my mother that had bone marrow cancer. She could use the patch and not become drowsy and ‘doped up’ as with Hydrocodone. It sounds to me like the DEA is making a ‘big deal’ out of this. If the DEA continues along its course, will there be pain meds at all for people? Or, will people have to suffer in horrible pain before they die? The DEA is never going to get all the drugs off the street. Does not look like they can even get one drug off the street. Or, maybe it is just big business for the DEA and the DEA is a business that is looking out for its self and yelling ‘wolf’ all the time.

Yes, this is why we dose the medication in Micrograms, not Milligrams…. How about the story where a couple sugar grains worth of pure Levothyroxine could kill you? As written this is just hype. Just like the marijuana potency is just hype. All potency means in drugs and medication is that you need less of the product to get the same effect. Doesn’t mean you’ll take the same as the other product. You take 10mg of Hydrocodone and Wow!, you take 10mg of Fentanyl and DEAD. Doesn’t mean John. Q. Public could get 10mg of Fentanyl, and use it the same way he would Hydrocodone.

And they’re getting it in a powder form??? At least the heroin they talk about being sold is a powder. Fentanyl I’m familiar with is either a gel from the patch or a liquid from a vial. One of the generic companied incorporated it in the adhesive itself, so no gel matrix. When I worked retail, I always had more compliants about the gel matrix patches not adhering well. We caught an LTC nurse trying to draw the gel out of the patches, but it was real cumbersome because of the gel matrix. I’m believing the DEA just makes things up to make news and keep their jobs. I had heard somethin about Fentanyl being mixed with Heroin, but after about 1 or 2 months of media hype….the stories disappeared, so I wondered if they even existed at all.
