Fear and Retribution

I am sure that it is just not healthcare…but most of us have some fear.. for the sake of fear or fear of retribution for something that we do.. when we are doing the right thing.

I talk with prescribers that are fearful of the DEA.. if they write for too many opiates or controlled substances.. at least too many by some DEA bureaucrat’s opinion.

I have seen statements by Pharmacists that they only turn away the most questionable or obviously forged controlled Rxs… the typical quote is “I did not go to school to be a cop”

I have seen statements from RPH’s regarding  not wanting to  following management mandates that are questionably legal, unethical, or plain out illegal…but feel they have no choice but to capitulate because of fear of losing their jobs.

Where does the statement “if you are not part of the solution.. you are part of the problem..” fits into this whole concept.

Is it driven by greed, narcissism , entitlement or just a total disregard for the rule of law, each of us individually and/or collectively as a society?

  1. Sounds like you have other issues with the pharmacist. How about airing your grievances with her with either your DM or an HR rep? The husband of the customer should be reported to the police before you really do get hurt.

  2. What do you do when a customer has a problem with an incompetent pharmacist and the pharmacist gives your name and medical information to her husband so he can call you up at work and threatened to attack you? I’m hoping she gets fired.
