Bureaucratic DOUBLE- SPEAK ?

DEA response: DEA registered distributors are required to provide effective controls against diversion of controlled substances. However, the DEA does not limit the quantity of controlled substances that may be legitimately distributed to pharmacies. Any arbitrary limits placed on community pharmacies by distributors are the result of a business decision of that distributor.

Why would a major for-profit public traded company whose primary business is to sell prescription medications and other items to various licensed pharmacies.. voluntarily limit what they sell to pharmacies and make less sales/profits ?

  1. Of course the DEA controls supply — they decide every year how much of each controlled drug is needed, just like they did this year with cannabis. They increased the supply so more research could be done.

How much of Walgreens’ business and profits are in the pharmacy? And how much of a pharmacy’s business is in pain medications and other controlled drugs, like Xanax, Ambien and Valium? How does Walgreens make up for the loss in profits? Somebody’s gotta take up the slack in profits or Wall Street will have a fit… and it won’t be the corporation that pays.

Are we seeing the beginning of the end for drug store pharmacies?
