WAGS addressing Rx drug abuse.. by refusing to fill “BE WELL”

Has Walgreens change prescription policy for some?

Spokesperson Phil Caruso did not address the individual cases but gave us the following statement regarding its recently handling for prescriptions:

“With the sharp rise in abuse of controlled substances in recent years, health care professionals in all practices are continuously striving to find better ways of ensuring those medications are used only for legitimate medical purposes. We are working to ensure our patients continue to have access to the medications they need while fulfilling our role in reducing potential abuse and misuse of controlled substances. We firmly believe that addressing prescription drug abuse will require all parties—including leaders in the community, physicians, distributors and regulators – to play a role in findings solutions to combatting abuse and misuse while balancing patient access to critical care.”

So according to this statement from a WALGREEN’S spokesperson.. if a WALGREENS Pharmacist refuses/declines to fill your Rx… is he/she come to the conclusion that you are a abuser/addict/junkie ? Because it seems to be clear that WALGREENS is addressing prescription drug abuse.. and thus.. that must be the reason that they are declining to fill your Rx.

What puzzles me… is the woman in the article.. keeps wanting to give WALGREENS her money… and after trying to jump thru all hoops and hurdles.. she is still turned away. If a business tell me that they don’t want my money… they don’t EVER GET ANOTHER PENNY FROM ME !

  1. Steve. I got WAGS ON VIDEO blatantly discriminating and lying to me. Got it yesterday afternoon.
    https://www.facebook.com/KatCooper21/posts/10152809864603210

I got ’em. And I’m going ALL THE WAY WITH THIS!!!
Speaking to my new attorney in the morning. He specializes in this kind of thing.
I’m taking WAGS down. I’ve HAD IT WITH THEIR BULLSHIT!!!

But yeah, the things in this video and link, all true. WAGS is now acting as doctors, prescribers, they’re acting as though they are he DEA, all of it, they are out of control!!!

  2. So now Wags is going to micromanage what type of doctor to see in order to get a script filled and one would only know this after the legitimate script is denied even if it has been written by a bona fide physician well within the scope of his practice? Is this like CVS micromanaging how much your co pay is depending if your pharmacy sells tobacco products or not? I hope all these patients go completely public, make lots of noise and the media points out what scope of practice means to show how ridiculous intrusive this so called new policy of Wags is.

Angela..Wags probably still refuse to fill it because the patient would have to drive more than 5 miles from her house to see a psychiatrist and theyd say she went out of area therefore shes a doctor shopper and an adderrall addict (sarcasm here)

  3. I went to Wags for my monthly Lotabs, I have severe nerve damage from 4 spine surgeries, a broken screw in my back & Arachnoiditis. This is the only pain medication that I take.
I was told that they didn’t have sufficient pills to fill my prescription & they were not expecting another shipment until the middle of next month.
I then went to Walmart where I was told that my insurance would not pay for my medicine because they don’t use the manufacturer that Walmart uses. They had them but I had to pay cash. I live on Soc.sec. so money isn’t always available for that much of an extra expenditure.
This war on drugs has been out of control for too long, it has become the DEA’s war on pain patients. Restricting access to legitimate patients should be cause for a class action lawsuit, but prescription drug abuse is a taboo topic with very little media coverage on the casualties of this “Government-vs-America’s disabled” war.

  4. I read the article you linked to and the woman says she does not want to change pharmacies because she doesn’t want it to seem as though she is pharmacy shopping. Maybe I’m wrong, but I think once you have interviewed with the media on how your pharmacy is discriminating against you then you should be able to safely look for another pharmacy with no repercussions from your prescribing provider. I would not only transfer that prescription from Walgreens, but as you said, I would never give them another penny for anything, either pharmacy or retail products.

Then at the end it says that Walgreens has recently been investigated by the DEA for it’s handling of controls. I don’t understand how that justifies refusing a (presumed) valid script. Even if you suspect a particular medication might be unnecessary for the patient if the prescription is kosher and comes from a provider with valid prescribing privileges then how is the pharmacy to blame for doing their job and filling it?

What if this was done with any other drug, what if this took place:
“No, Mr. Smith, I can’t ethically fill this Ceftin because I think what you have is viral and there is far too much over-prescribing of antibiotics going on in the world. I refuse to fill it unless it comes from a pulmonologist”.

And I wonder what the powers that be, the insurance companies, would have to say about seeing a PCP and a psychiatrist just to get one medication all because the pharmacist said so.
