The CBS 11 I-team has learned the Texas Board of Pharmacy receives more than 200-complaints about dispensing errors every year–

 CVS Caremark sent us the following statement:

“The health and safety of our customers is our number one priority and we have comprehensive policies and procedures in place to ensure prescription safety. We extended our sincere apologies to Mr. Cunningham for this incident. We corrected his prescription as soon as this was brought to our attention and we are cooperating with the Board of Pharmacy in its investigation of this matter. Prescription errors are a very rare occurrence, but if one does happen we fully investigate the incident to determine what happened in order to prevent it from occurring again. We are committed to continually improving quality measures to help ensure that prescriptions are dispensed safely and accurately.”

but you know the routine… fill more prescriptions with less staffing and you get more errors ..

Have you noticed.. more and more investigative reporters are paying attention to all the errors that pharmacy/Pharmacists make ?

  1. Bad handwriting? Give me a break! How about understaffing and techs who are undertrained and underpaid? High stress to meet the metrics and low morale? We are threatened with write-ups and “retraining” because of low scores in “satisfied with time to fill”. Everyone know I could go on and on…..

  2. Ha….two errors per week!!! I have the evidence to say otherwise…stay tuned…..and the PA BOP has just some of my information that made its way to me after leaving CVS. My understanding is that others are documenting as well, especially on the left coast. Has anyone heard of gift cards given to the patient for hundreds of $$$$.

  3. The professor watered down the more crucial point by saying bad writing is key deal. He alluded to staffing but did a disservice not emphasizing understaffing, I think.

  4. Note the use of “customers” vs. “patients” in the CVS statement: “The health and safety of our customers is our number one priority and we have comprehensive policies and procedures in place to ensure prescription safety….”
