This one AMAZING COMPANY…

This is one amazing company… we use to buy our 14.5 y/o.. Shih Tzu’s (Sammy) special diet food from our vet. We mis-estimated how much he was going to eat while we were in FL for the winter and Barb found this company stocked the specific special dog food and she ordered a case. Unfortunately, either her fault or theirs we were sent the right brand but the wrong version.  So Barb contacted them to order the correct food… They told us to donate the case to a local shelter and they sent us another case AT NO CHARGE…

We have since purchased all if Sammy’s food from them.. one order had a couple of slightly “bent cans” in the order and Barb made them aware of it..  Another order had a can so seriously bend that the seal was broken on the can and it was leaking…

The next day.. there is a new case of the dog food at our front door – AT NO CHARGE…

Barb has set up auto ship on his foods and other treats from them…

Last Thursday and Friday… Sammy is drinking water excessively and loading his “pads” equally with urine… we called the vet Friday afternoon and they are only opened Saturday 9 AM to noon and they were booked solid but if we brought him at opening they would look at him..  They ran labs and some of his liver values .. were off the scale.. and suggested that he be put on IV for the weekend… which we agreed to …

Barb sent a message to www.chew.com to suspend our automatic shipping orders…

Today the front door bell rang and there is a gentleman at the door with this:

with the attached note:

The two days of IV has lowered some of his liver values but no where near normal… We had a sonogram on Sammy as they recommended and the BAD NEWS is that it appears that Sammy has several small malignant masses in his liver. Because there are several masses and his age… surgery is not an option… and likewise because of his age neither is chemo. The vet did say that typically this type of cancer is SLOW GROWING…

He is back home and seems rather “normal” … how many more “normal days” that he has…

This breed has a life expectancy of 12-15 years and he turned 14 this past Dec…

The reason for this post… if you have a pet … www.chewy.com… deserves your patronage … an IMPERSONAL INTERNET VENDOR THEY ARE NOT !!!

  1. chewy.com IS an impersonal vendor that abuses animals. How? It was bought by PetsMart, which is known for getting animals from mills (small animals, birds, reptiles/amphibians) or from the wild (fish and reptiles/amphibians). They were a great company but now they are owned by a shitty company that doesn’t care for the welfare of animals.

Just look up PetsMart and Holmes, and follow the rabbit hole of animal abuse.

  2. Reading stuff like this gives me hope for the future. What a wonderful company!! I know this has to be heartbreaking for y’all. I adore Shih-Tzus and think they’re an amazing breed! A few years ago, I cared for my parents’ Shih-Tzu (Hannah) while my dad was in the hospital and nursing home/rehab facility to help build his strength back up a couple of hours away. My mom was working full-time and driving back and forth, so I took little Hannah home with me.

When I would visit my dad in the nursing facility, I brought her every time. She loved visiting people. The patients in the facility and the nurses just adored her and, of course, she lapped up all of the attention lol.(Years prior to that, she was actually a certified service dog and was certified to visit nursing homes – not sure what it’s called – therapy dog?? – but the elderly people adored her and she loved all the attention).

When my dad got home (after 3 or 4 months), we decided that she’d become extremely attached to me (and I became extremely attached to her). It would confuse her too much to go back to living with them because she’d gotten so used to living with us. We decided I would keep her. My son was becoming more independent, going through puberty and all of that fun stuff, so Hannah was there for me.

I loved the sound of her toenails tapping our wood floors as she followed me throughout the house. She had this precious little roll of fat around her neck that I loved hugging and kissing (I know that sounds weird lol). I bonded with her more than I had with any of my other pets, who I love deeply. She had liberal visitation rights with my parents, who lived about a mile and half down the road lol.

After a couple of years, she started coughing and acted like she had something stuck in her throat. (This was on a Saturday night). The vet met me at her office on Sunday morning, took x-rays and determined little Hannah had a tumor which surrounded 2/3 of her lungs. Vet gave her an injection of anti-inflammatory medication and fluids. She wanted me to bring her back on Monday (the next day), so she could get better x-rays and let her boss (a vet with many years of experience) examine the x-rays. (We didn’t have an emergency vet hospital near us, plus it would have stressed her out even more).

By this time, I had been up with Hannah, holding her head so that she could breathe and rest at the same time, for two nights. When she’d try and lay her head down, her oxygen was cut off. (Her trachea was also collapsing). She couldn’t walk. I had to carry her outside so she could use the bathroom. She couldn’t eat or drink water. She was suffering greatly; however, with all of her suffering, she still did everything to try and please me, including waiting to use the bathroom when I took her outside.

Monday was Christmas Eve. Making the decision to end her suffering was, by far, one of the most heartbreaking decisions I’ve ever had to make. I still tear up thinking about it. My pets are my fur-babies. When I lose one, I’m heartbroken. Losing my little Hannah (esp on Christmas Eve) was more devastating than losing any other pet. This was 4 years ago. I still can’t bring myself to change my FB profile pic (which is Hannah). I wish you and Barb the best with your little fur-baby, who is just simply adorable.
