According to this article… NECC has hired the lobby firm O’Neill and Associates that according to their website http://www.oneillandassoc.com/

they are   Boston’s #1 Lobbying firm of 2011… they also have offices in Washington DC.

well…  kiddies… can you say DAMAGE CONTROL !!!  To me, looks like they are going to use the Mc Neil play book on damage control they developed with the Tylenol tampering problem years ago.

The web searches are going nuts …searching for information on NECC ( New England Compounding Center ) and Ameridose (sister company) and or key words involving meningitis and similar words.

For you Pharmacists out there… this is the time to talk to your local media about all the staffing problems that community pharmacy has and all the errors that happen because of all the under staffing , promises to have Rxs ready like we are dealing out hamburgers and french fries. This could be the “spark” that helps us right this sinking ship..

Compounding is our heritage and serves a vital purpose for a very small segment of the population… Sterile/preservative free injectable compounding is a whole other animal and – IMO – requires over sight by a entity that has the financial resources and knowledgeable inspectors to make it as safe as possible.

If compounders want to act like a manufacturer… then they need to “man up” and play by the rules that the rest of the manufacturers have to play by and not hide behind a “compounding community pharmacy” label .. so that they shirt the laws that are there to help protect the general public.

NECC is not the only “compounding community pharmacy” out there that is doing the same type of “high risk” compounding… They are just one of hundreds… maybe even thousands… they are all – or nearly all – have the same license as any other community pharmacy… so who really knows?
